Going Further
Aside from writing, one of my favorite pastimes is finding ways that we can incorporate charitable giving into what we do. All organizations are reviewed against Charity Navigator when applicable; for convenience, those links have been provided as well. United Through Reading® is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit organization. Their mission is to unite families facing physical separation by facilitating the bonding experience of reading aloud together.
Cookies for Kid’s Cancer
Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is committed to raising funds to support research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancer. Through the concept of local bake sales, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer will provide the inspiration and support for people like you to help children win their fight against cancer.
Soles 4 Souls
Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes free of charge to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 5.5 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently donating one pair every 9 seconds.) The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.
Room to Read [ Charity Navigator page ]
Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children’s literature, constructing schools, and providing education to girls. They seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education empowers people to improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries and future generations.
